March Curling Madness Week 1 Recap
Team A – Brian, Cody, Jesse
Team B – Mike, Neil, Andy, Adam
Team A – 8 points and 3 ends
Team B – 11 points and 5 ends
As I mentioned at the end of the night, to determine a winner of this lightly attended edition of March Curling Madness, I’m going to use points spiel rules and track everyone’s score individually. I think as long as we make sure the top scores in the league play on opposite teams every week, we should end up with a decisive winner by Week 4. I didn’t go through a robust mathematical proof on this, so I could be entirely wrong, we’ll see. As a reminder, in points-spiel format a win is worth 5 points (a tie is 2.5 points each), every end you win is worth 1 point, and every point you score is worth a half point. So right now the standings are:
Mike, Neil, Andy, and Adam – 15.5
Brian, Cody, and Jesse – 7
Dewey and Phil – 0
So next week we’ll ensure Team A and Team B are both split up as evenly as possible for the next teams. That will give a chance for the scores to separate some. Then the following game we’ll do the same, making sure at the very least the top two scores are on separate teams so one has a chance to gain on the other.
Side game recap –
Neil and Brian dressed to the theme, they’ve each got a ticket in the raffle for a $25 gift card for club swag.
Jesse won both the necklace contest and the score guess.
There is no league next week, 3/13. The next game is 3/20. The theme for that night is Superheroes and Villains. If your availability has changed for 3/20 please let me know as soon as you know for certain.
See you out on the ice!
Good Curling,
