March Curling Madness – Week 3

March Curling Madness Week 2 Recap

In week 2 we had another tie game, this time between the two undefeated teams, “Demented Deliveries” and “Beware the Frost”, and the two teams that tied in Week 1, “In The Mad House” and “It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Curl” won their games. That means we have four teams with a record of 1-0-1. As a reminder, week 3’s schedule is the semi-finals, determined by points-spiel format rankings after the first two weeks, while not allowing a rematch. Points values for (Win, End, Rock) are (5, 1, 1/4) respectively. The top 4 teams are in the A event semi final, while the bottom two teams are in the “B Event Play-in”.

Side game recap –

Melissa won the points guess. The total points were 36, and she got it right on the nose. Brian (me) walked off the ice with the necklace, having the final shot to the button.

Theme

Nearly everyone was wearing some form of green for St. Patrick’s Day. All those that participated get a raffle ticket for a drawing at the end for a $25 gift certificate to our online swag store. This week’s theme is Tie Dye, so come wearing those groovy clothes, and get another raffle ticket towards the drawing. Confident you’ll win? Take a look at our Fourthwall site for some swag window shopping.

Schedule

Here are the games this week, actual sheet assignments may change.

As the Semi-finals feed the Finals by record, we won’t allow ties. If there is a tie, we will decide the winner by “skips stones”. For new curlers, that means the skips each throw a stone and try to get as close to the pin in the center of the button, closest to the pin wins. There is a digital measurement device in the shed we can use. The stones have to stop in the house to count. Stones can be swept by the delivering team, but there is no defensive sweeping by the opposing team. If both skips miss the house, then the vices try, and so on down the order. The team that throws first would be the team who would have thrown first if it were a true extra end. Stones should be thrown from the far hack back towards the entrance so clean up is easier.
The teams that lose the semi-finals will go to either the B Event or the C Event. That will be determined by points-spiel ranking for only the Semi-Final game. If both of these teams end up with the same rank in the semi-finals, then the ranking before the semi-finals will be the tie breaker. The winner of the B Event Play-In goes to the B Event, the loser goes to the C Event.

Availability

Phil is out this week, but he already has Ian subbing for him. Nobody else has indicated that they will be absent. If that has changed for you, let us know so we can book a sub for your spot.
