Spring Curling Updates
Sunday Herb Kupchik Memorial League

The Herb Kupchik Memorial League, our Sunday spring league, has already received 32 registrations, that’s 4 full sheets of games! For our classic 8 week structure, that’s a full league. But now that we have 5 sheets, we could potentially get 10 teams on the ice. If you go to the league page, it will say registration is closed. If you’d like to join the waitlist for a 10 team league, fill out the Sub Availability Form on the league page. We will be using this as our waitlist, and if we don’t reach 10 teams those who fill out the form will be the first contacted to sub when spots are available. We may not need to get a full 8 extra people to open up registration to 10 teams, but we want to avoid a situation where we have too many teams of 3 and have to declare forfeits when there are a few absences. As of writing this email, there are 3 people on the waitlist, lets get a few more and have our first 10 team league! The sub availability form is at the bottom of the page if you’re on mobile, or the bottom right under registration if you are on the desktop.
The League will be on Sundays from 6:00pm to 8:30pm from April 12th to June 14th. There will be no curling on Mothers Day (5/10), or Memorial Day Weekend (5/25). There will be a delayed start of 6:30pm on 5/17. The cost is $225 for nonmembers, with the usual $25 member discount. Win the whole thing and get your name on the trophy!
Fill out the sub availability form to get on the waitlist today!
League Page
Tuesdays

There has been a small change to Spring Tuesday League. We had to reschedule the finals of March Curling Madness to April 14th. So the Spring Tuesday League now starts on April 21st and ends on June 16th, with no curling on June 9th. Registration is now open! The first two nights will be from 7:30pm to 10:00pm and will be pick up games, the remaining six nights will be 6:30pm-9:00pm and will be a mini league with set teams, round robin play, and a finals. You can either register for the full 8 weeks, or the pickup league and mini league individually.
REGISTRATION (Full 8 weeks)
REGISTRATION (2 week of pick up games only)

Friendlies
Spring time is for Friendlies! In the curling world, a “Friendly” is a low stakes competition between two clubs. Diamond State gets even friendlier by mixing up the players so every team has members from both clubs. We’ve got two events we are hosting this spring that have become an annual tradition. The Crabby Diamond friendly with Chesapeake Curling Club is on Saturday April 11th from 3-6pm. The 95 North friendly with Potomac Curling Club is on Saturday May 30th from 3-6pm. These are both member events, meaning you need to join the club to participate. Crabby Diamond registration is now live, so go to the website and sign up!

Skills Clinic
We’ve got a skills clinic for our members on June 6th from 3pm to 6pm. Wayne Anderson will be helping members improve their form in sweeping and delivering stones. Wayne is the father of Olympic curler, Taylor Anderson-Heide, who was the lead on the American women’s team. Who knows, maybe he can help you get to the French Alps in 2030!
Intro to Curling Classes
The Olympics have been great advertising for us, all of our originally planned Intro-to-Curling classes on our website are full through August. That’s March 13th, March 29th, April 7th, June 9th, and August 30th. So we’ve added a new date, Friday May 8th! So if you are someone else you know was looking to get into an intro class before the fall, sign up for that May date soon.
Members, please come out and volunteer and help build the club! Let us know your volunteer availability on the Member Portal of the website.
See you out on the ice!
Good Curling,
Brian Hufe
