Spring at Diamond State

New Members

The second half of our curling year is about to start. Since our membership year renews on October first, if you’re only just now joining us for leagues you can take advantage of our new member discount! You should have been emailed a coupon code after your ITC to get half off your club membership. Pay just $50 (instead of the full $100) for the remaining half of our curling year and renew as a full member in October. If you haven’t tried a league yet, you can still try one trial league without becoming a member. But membership comes with perks, including a $25 discount to our 8 week member leagues! If you’re coming to the club from elsewhere, besides one of our ITCs, message us directly for the code.

Here are all your chances to join us this spring:

March Curling Madness

Our March Curling Madness League is in it’s third week tonight, 3/24, out of four. We ended up with a full 6 teams, with a lot of new curlers, which is great! We will definitely need a few subs, as some of the people that registered can’t make all the nights. All it costs to join us for a single night is our standard sub fee. That’s $30 for one night, or you can buy a 4 pack for $100. Sub fees are good for all leagues, provided there’s an opening. You can let us know your sub availability by filling out the sub form on the league page. Curlers of all skill levels are welcome, this league is definitely just for fun. The remaining league nights are March 24th, and 31st from 7:30 to 10:00pm.

MARCH CURLING MADNESS LEAGUE PAGE

Sundays

Our classic Spring Sunday league has been rebranded as the Herb Kupchik Memorial League. For those that didn’t know him, Herb was an original club member, a long time curler before that, and most importantly a friend who passed away last year. He also carved the wood trophy associated with this league, and it has been replated in his honor. The Herb Kupchik Memorial League will be our standard 8 week league, with 7 weeks of round robin play followed by the finals in week 8. Win the whole thing and get your name on the trophy!
The League will be on Sundays from 6:00pm to 8:30pm from April 12th to June 14th. There will be no curling on Mothers Day (5/10), or Memorial Day Weekend (5/25). There will be a delayed start of 6:30pm on 5/17. The cost is $225 for nonmembers, with the usual $25 member discount.

Registration is now live, so sign up today!

Friendlies

Spring time is for Friendlies! In the curling world, a “Friendly” is a low stakes competition between two clubs. Diamond State gets even friendlier by mixing up the players so every team has members from both clubs. We’ve got two events we are hosting this spring that have become an annual tradition. The Crabby Diamond friendly with Chesapeake Curling Club is on Saturday April 11th from 3-6pm. The 95 North friendly with Potomac Curling Club is on Saturday May 30th from 3-6pm. These are both member events, meaning you need to join the club to participate. Crabby Diamond registration is now live, so go to the website and sign up!

Skills Clinic

We’ve got a skills clinic for our members on June 6th from 3pm to 6pm. Wayne Anderson will be helping members improve their form in sweeping and delivering stones. Wayne is the father of Olympic curler, Taylor Anderson-Heide, who was the lead on the American women’s team. Who knows, maybe he can help you get to the French Alps in 2030!

Intro to Curling Classes

The Olympics have been great advertising for us, all of our originally planned Intro-to-Curling classes on our website are full through August. That’s March 13th, March 29th, April 7th, June 9th, and August 30th. So we’ve added a new date, Friday May 8th! So if you are someone else you know was looking to get into an intro class before the fall, sign up for that May date soon.

Members, please come out and volunteer and help build the club! Let us know your volunteer availability on the Member Portal of the website.

See you out on the ice!

Good Curling,
Brian Hufe
