2026 New Year League – Penultimate Game

New Year League Snow Day Resolution

We unfortunately had to cancel our league night on February 22nd due to the weather and were unable to reschedule. We have a few options to reimburse you for your lost league night. You can either receive a sub credit to be used in a future league or a coupon code for $25 to be used as a discount on a future league these two are the easiest form of reimbursement for our club to handle on the back end. We can also credit $25 to the payment method you used to purchase the league. Stripe does not reimburse us for processing fees for refunds, so you can either take the full refund, or if you’re feeling generous the refund minus processing fees. If you’re feeling very generous you can also donate the full $25 to the club, we’re a nonprofit 501(c)(3) and would greatly appreciate the donation. Please fill out the survey linked below to let us know how you’d like to handle the cancellation credit. If you do not tell us which option you choose before March 30th, our default will be to provide you with a coupon code.

Week 7(6?) Implications

This coming Sunday, March 22nd, is the last game before the finals for the 2026 New Year League. I generally send out a long email about all the implications of the various win/loss combinations for each team. This league is pretty simple, so let’s get into it. Here’s everyone’s record, including Ends Won, which is the first tie breaker, and Points Scored, which is the second tie breaker.

If you think I have your record wrong, please let me know. The games on Sunday are:

Hufe vs Vild
Donovan vs Sabatino
Hercus vs Wiebe
Johnson is on bye

Johnson is on their bye week. Regardless of what happens, Johnson will either be tied for first, or in second place, so they are in the A Event either way.

Game 1 – Hufe vs Vild: Vild is the only team that will play 6 games because of the snow day cancellation landing on their bye week, so there’s no tie breaker possibilities here, even if they tie. Whoever wins Hufe v Vild is in the A Event, whoever loses is in the B Event.
Game 2 – Donovan vs Sabatino: If Sabatino wins they are guaranteed B Event, if they lose they are in a tie breaker for B/C Events, either just with Donovan or with Donovan and Hercus if Hercus wins game 3. If Donovan wins they are in a tie break for B/C Event, either with Sabatino or in a 3 way tie with Sabatino and Hercus if Hercus wins Game 3. If Donovan loses they are either guaranteed C Event or in a possible 3 way tie break for C Event/Bye Week if Wiebe wins game 3.
Game 3 – Hercus vs Wiebe: If Hercus wins they are either in a 3 way tie for B/C Event with Donovan and Sabatino if Donovan wins game 2 or guaranteed C Event if Sabatino wins Game 2. If Hercus loses they are in a tie break for C Event/Bye week, either just with Wiebe or with Wiebe and Donovan if Donovan loses Game 2. If Wiebe loses they are guaranteed to have the Bye Week. If they win they are in either a straight tie with Hercus or a 3 way tie for the C Event/Bye Week with Donovan and Hercus if Donovan loses Game 2. However, this win would have to be decisive. Wiebe would either have to keep Hercus from scoring at all and take every end in either a 7 or 8 end game, or if they take 7 of 8 ends against Hercus and Hercus scores 1 end, they need to hope that Sabatino shuts out Donovan. The first tie breaker is total ends won and Wiebe has 7 while both Hercus and Donovan have 14, so they are 7 behind. The second tie breaker is points, Wiebe has 12 total points while Hercus has 19 and Donovan has 23. Even if Wiebe doesn’t manage the upset, there are enough absences in week 8 (7?) that every member of Team Wiebe can sub if they want to, and we hope they do.

Alright, see everyone on Sunday!

Good Curling,
Brian Hufe
